Tanja Micić Ponjiger

R&D Engineer, NTC NIS Naftagas

Tanja is an R&D engineer at Scientific-Technological Center (STC) in NIS Gazprom Neft, with a background in geostatistics and databases. Her daily tasks include design and development of new ML prototypes, redesign of existing products, as well as research and test of product concepts for the Digital Transformation in the oil & gas industry.

Also, she is a Research Assistant at the Chair of Physical Geography, University of Novi Sad, with a master’s degree in Geoinformatics. Her PhD thesis research is related to soil erosion modelling in Western Balkans.

    This presentation aims to communicate how we managed to incorporate ML algorithms in the everyday work routine of a petrophysics in NIS (Petroleum Industry of Serbia). As petrophysics stands for "..the study of the physical and chemical properties of rocks and their contained fluids", it has a great value for the upstream segment of the oil and gas industry. From a multivariable core lithology classifier to a fractured interval clustering, we used well logs as standard petrophysics data format to train our ML algorithms. After the validation stage, the final models were built in the commercial software platform by creating the custom menu “NIS Digital lab”. Respecting the end-user experience, all E2E scripts preserved data input logic from the commercial software platform. A year after the custom menu was put in production we saved +100h on manual interpretations by end-users, also making a significant impact on precision by reducing the subjectivity of interpretation.
